Road closures announced ahead of Birthplace of Route 66 Festival in Springfield
A series of road closures will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 7, for the 12th annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival and Parade in downtown Springfield. Despite minor traffic delays, a festival shuttle system aims to facilitate access to downtown restaurants, concerts, and festival activities.

World War II biplanes featured at Birthplace of Route 66 Festival
The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival will feature an aerial display this year, with two Stearman Formation Pilots set to kick off the event on Thursday. Two vintage World War II biplanes are scheduled to fly over the festival at approximately 6:45 p.m.

EPA awards $1 million grant to support Springfield's brownfield redevelopment
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 staff presented the City’s Brownfields Revolving Loan Program with a $1 million ceremonial check today at Jordan Valley Park, a brownfields success story. The City’s Economic Vitality Department, which administers its brownfields programs, was notified of the competitive award in May. Springfield announces planned sewer rate increase effective July
Customers on City sewer service will see a planned 3% rate increase beginning July 1, adding up to an additional $1.26 per month for the average user. The increase in rates will facilitate the continued improvement of the City’s aging sewer system and allow the community to remain in compliance with federal Clean Water Act regulations. The City of Springfield contracts with City Utilities for sanitary sewer services billing, so customers will notice this change on their August CU bills.
