Senior swimmers Luigi Maciel da Silva and Lana Janson of Missouri State University have been named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Swimmers of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Da Silva was recognized for his performance in Missouri State’s recent 182.5-109.5 win over Omaha. He claimed first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.19 seconds, which is currently the fastest in the MVC and ranks 34th among all Division I swimmers this season. Da Silva also won the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 1:57.58—again leading the MVC and placing him 53rd nationally in Division I.

Janson earned her honor after contributing to Missouri State’s 179-118 victory against Omaha. She finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a conference-leading time of 50.57 seconds and took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.12, which is second-fastest in the MVC so far this season.

With these awards, Missouri State has now received five total conference honors this swimming and diving season.

Missouri State’s swimming and diving teams are scheduled to compete next at the House of Champions Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana, beginning Thursday, November 20 at IU Natatorium.
