Eighth-seeded Missouri State women's soccer team defeated top-seeded Western Kentucky University (WKU) 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship at Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The victory marks the first conference loss of the season for WKU, who finish with a record of 9-5-3, while Missouri State improves to 6-8-4 and advances to the semifinals.

Missouri State created several early chances, including efforts from Lillie Rasmussen and Reilly Heman. Heman hit the crossbar in the eighth minute before Rasmussen forced a save from WKU goalkeeper Maddie Davis. Defensive play was key, as Kayla Smith stopped a WKU breakaway with a sliding tackle.

The Bears took the lead in the 34th minute when freshman Ellie Neath scored her first collegiate goal after receiving an assist from Rasmussen. Julia Kristensen initiated the attack that led to Neath’s goal.

In the 58th minute, Reilly Heman extended Missouri State’s advantage by scoring off an assist from Abby Hansen. The play started with Neath regaining possession deep in their own half and launching a counterattack.

Goalkeeper Ella Becker made four saves for Missouri State, including stopping a penalty kick in the final minute to secure her fifth shutout of the season. Defenders Maddie Schneiderhahn and Smith played significant roles in limiting WKU to eight shots during the match.

"This team has battled all year long but hasn't always gotten the result we felt we were capable of," said head coach Kirk Nelson. "Tonight, we got the result and showed how well we can play when we stay focused on our style of play and defending as a team. Team is fired up for an opportunity to play in the semis!"

Missouri State will face either Middle Tennessee or FIU in the CUSA semifinals on Tuesday, November 4 at 6 p.m. Central Time in Lynchburg.
