Motorists traveling through the intersection of Galloway Street and Lone Pine Avenue will encounter a new three-way stop starting Wednesday. This change is part of the ongoing Galloway Street Widening Project aimed at enhancing safety in the construction zone and preparing drivers for a future roundabout.

Project Manager Nicholas Edelman stated, "We decided to transition the intersection to a three-way-stop to help slow down north-south traffic as it flows nearby the construction zone. This modification will also help retrain Lone Pine drivers and prepare them for the future operation of the roundabout."

Construction began earlier this month and includes widening Galloway Street to three lanes between Luster and Lone Pine avenues, building two new roundabouts, as well as implementing traffic calming measures, pedestrian pathways, utility updates, and stormwater improvements.

Hartman and Company, the general contractor for the project, has completed tree and brush removal along Galloway Street's south side for a new electrical line alignment. Utility work is ongoing in the area. Motorists should expect short-term lane closures on Galloway between Luster and Horseshoe Avenues this week due to water line installations. Grading and earthwork outside the intersection of Galloway and Lone Pine are also expected to commence soon.

The city plans to host another public meeting about the project in mid-to-late November as they finalize details of the construction schedule and phasing plan.

The project involves expanding Galloway Street to three lanes with additional features like a left turn lane, roundabout intersections at Luster Avenue and Lone Pine Avenue, sidewalks on one side, and a multi-use path on the other. Access to properties within the project area will be maintained throughout construction but may require direction-specific access temporarily.

The estimated cost of construction is approximately $6.5 million, funded by a voter-approved ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax alongside $1.5 million from the Governor’s Transportation Cost Share Program.
