Missouri State University's women's soccer team secured a 3-1 victory over Kennesaw State on Sunday at Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. This win marks the Bears' second Conference USA triumph of the season and extends their unbeaten run in conference play to 23 matches, a streak that began in October 2022.
Kennesaw State opened the scoring early, with Brenna Young finding the net in the 11th minute. Missouri State responded quickly when Julia Kristensen scored from outside the box after receiving a pass from Emma Shields in the 23rd minute, leveling the match at 1-1.
Maggie O'Keefe put Missouri State ahead just before halftime, scoring with a volley from 25 yards out at the 44:06 mark. O'Keefe added her second goal of the game in the 61st minute by finishing a cross from Reilly Heman, giving Missouri State a two-goal cushion.
Goalkeeper Ella Becker contributed four saves during the match, helping to maintain Missouri State's lead. The Bears were efficient with their opportunities, converting all three shots on target from five total attempts. In contrast, Kennesaw State managed one goal from eleven shots.
"The team showed a ton of resilience today," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "We have been on the road for five days and then going down a goal early, the team fought through it and put in a stellar performance to put three goals in for the win. Fired up to get two strong results on the road this week, can't wait to be home for our next string of conference games."
Missouri State will return home after completing a three-match road trip that resulted in two wins and one draw to start Conference USA play. The team's upcoming schedule includes four consecutive home matches beginning Sunday, October 5 against Delaware. Senior Day will be celebrated during their match against Western Kentucky on October 12. Additional home games include contests against Louisiana Tech on October 16 and Sam Houston on October 19 at Allison South Stadium. Admission is free for all Missouri State women's soccer home games.
