Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two charges: making false statements within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. The indictment alleges that Comey obstructed a congressional investigation into the disclosure of sensitive information, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1505. It also claims that Comey made a false statement when he testified that he did not authorize anyone at the FBI to serve as an anonymous source, which prosecutors say was untrue.

Comey is expected to surrender on Friday, September 26. His arraignment is scheduled for October 9 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 600 of the U.S. District Court in Alexandria before Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff.

In response to the indictment, Rep. Eric Burlison (MO-07) issued a statement: “James Comey disgraced his office by trying to sabotage a duly elected president. He betrayed his oath and the country he swore to serve. His indictment is proof the deep state is finally being dragged into the light. As he said himself, no one is above the law.”

Eric Burlison currently serves in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 7th district, having replaced Billy Long in 2023 (https://burlison.house.gov/about). Before joining Congress, Burlison served in both chambers of Missouri’s legislature from 2009 through early 2023.

Burlison was born in Springfield, Missouri in 1976 and now lives in Ozark. He graduated from Missouri State University with degrees earned in both 2000 and 2002.
