Missouri State University's women's soccer team secured a 1-0 win against Central Arkansas on Thursday night at the Bill Stephens Complex. The match was decided by Julia Kristensen, who scored in the 65th minute after receiving a set piece delivery from Abby Hansen. This assist marked Hansen's fourth of the season.
Kristensen led Missouri State's offense with five shots during the game. Riley Smith also contributed by creating opportunities and supporting both offensive and defensive plays.
The Bears' defense limited Central Arkansas to six total shots, with only one shot on target. Goalkeeper Ella Becker saved that attempt, earning her second shutout of the year.
Missouri State controlled much of the second half, outshooting Central Arkansas 15-6 and putting seven shots on goal.
Head coach Kirk Nelson achieved his 40th career win with this result. "Positive result to close out our non-conference slate," Nelson said. "It was a battle till to the end and was a full team effort to get the shutout on the road, and the 40th win since this staff took over the program. Now we focus on a new era and starting CUSA!"
The Bears will begin Conference USA play at Liberty on Friday, September 19 at 2:30 p.m., marking their first match in their new conference.
