Missouri State University football players Kanye Young and Jeron Askren received Conference USA weekly honors following the Bears' recent win over Marshall. The announcement was made Monday by Conference USA.
Young, a linebacker from Menifee, California, was named Defensive Player of the Week. He led the team with seven tackles, including three solo stops, added two quarterback hurries, a tackle for loss, and an interception during Marshall's final drive. Three of his tackles came on third down plays that ended Marshall possessions. Missouri State limited Marshall to 274 total yards and 12 first downs in the game.
Askren, a redshirt freshman tight end from Wichita, Kansas, earned Freshman of the Week after catching the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter. His eight-yard reception from Jacob Clark secured Missouri State’s comeback victory and marked both his first career start and touchdown for the program as an FBS team.
According to Missouri State Athletics, this is the first time any Bears players have been selected for CUSA weekly awards.
Quarterback Jacob Clark and offensive lineman Mark Hutchinson were also nominated for CUSA honors at their positions.
Missouri State will play its first-ever FBS home game this Saturday against nationally-ranked SMU at Plaster Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available through MissouriStateBears.com/tickets or at the Missouri State Athletics Box Office. A $21 bleacher ticket flash sale is being offered online only for Monday purchases. Season tickets remain available in most seating sections via the box office or online ticket site.
