Missouri State University's women's soccer team faced the University of Missouri in a home match at Allison South Stadium on Sunday. The game remained scoreless until the final 10 minutes, when Missouri's Olivia Chianelli scored in the 81st minute. Four minutes later, Ava Vetter added another goal for Missouri, resulting in a 2-0 loss for the Bears.
Throughout the match, Missouri State's defense was active. In the first half, sophomore Kendall Petoskey blocked several attacks from Missouri on the wing. During the second half, Maddie Schneiderhahn and Riley Smith made key tackles near their own goal to keep the score even until late in the game.
On offense, Missouri State increased its pressure after halftime and generated four shots in the second period but was unable to convert any into goals.
Head coach Kirk Nelson commented on the team's performance: "I'm disappointed in our loss today. It was a great matchup for us and we played hard for the first 80 minutes to keep the shutout, but just couldn't hold on until the end," said Nelson. "I'm proud of the team going strong against an SEC opponent. We are growing every game as we move towards conference. On to the next one."
Missouri State will play its next match away against Saint Louis University on Thursday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a home game against Iowa on Sunday, September 7.
