Missouri State's Jackson Holmes has reached an agreement with the Oakland Athletics as an undrafted free agent. This deal is pending a physical examination. Holmes will head to the Athletics' facility in Mesa, Arizona, to start his professional career early next week.
During the 2025 season, Holmes began in the weekend rotation before becoming the Bears' closer. He appeared in 22 games, starting five and securing a team-high of five saves. The Columbia, Illinois native struck out 61 batters over 54.1 innings and achieved a complete-game three-hitter against ULM on March 1, earning him Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
On March 15, he recorded a season-high nine strikeouts against SIUE and fanned three batters in 1.1 hitless innings during MSU's victory at No. 2 Arkansas on March 25.
Holmes joins three other players from the 2025 roster who have entered professional baseball ranks this year: Jake McCutcheon was selected by Miami in the tenth round (288th overall), Nick Rodriguez was picked by Los Angeles Angels also in the tenth round (289th overall), and Dylan Robertson signed with independent Joliet Slammers earlier this June.
