Rep. Eric Burlison, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 7th district, has recently posted a series of tweets criticizing Democratic lawmakers and their handling of the ongoing government shutdown.
On October 14, 2025, Burlison stated, "Democrats are seething that President Trump is finding ways to pay our troops. They’ve voted eight times to keep the government closed. That tells you everything."
Later the same day, he posted another message: "Democrats are in complete disarray." This tweet continued his criticism of the opposing party’s approach to the budget impasse.
On October 15, 2025, Burlison referenced the length of the current shutdown by tweeting, "Day 15 of the Schumer Shutdown."
Burlison, who has represented Missouri’s 7th District in Congress since 2023, previously served in both the Missouri House of Representatives and the Missouri Senate. He succeeded Billy Long in Congress and has a background in state politics dating back to 2009. Burlison was born in Springfield, Missouri, in 1976 and currently resides in Ozark. He holds degrees from Missouri State University, having graduated in 2000 and again in 2002.
The ongoing government shutdown has prompted strong reactions from both parties, with Republicans like Burlison attributing responsibility to Democratic leadership. The use of terms such as "Schumer Shutdown" refers to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and reflects partisan tensions over budget negotiations.
