In late December, the United States Senate passed the Think Differently Database Act, a bipartisan effort led by Senator Eric Schmitt and Senator Jon Ossoff. The bill is now awaiting the President's signature.
Senator Schmitt expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the legislation: “The Think Differently Database Act creates a comprehensive website that provides organization to much-needed resources that benefit those with disabilities. My son Stephen inspired me to go into public service, and fighting to improve the lives of those with disabilities is one of the most important facets of my job. I’m extremely pleased this bill passed the Senate, and I look forward to the President signing it into law.”
The act mandates the Secretary of Health & Human Services to establish an accessible website featuring various resources for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This includes federal and state resources, connections to healthcare and mental health services, as well as other community-based services available through state Medicaid programs. Additionally, a zip code feature will be implemented to assist users in finding local resources.
Earlier in December, the House of Representatives approved the Think Differently Database Act. Following its passage in both chambers of Congress, it is now set for presidential approval.
