Senator Eric Schmitt has announced his committee assignments for the 119th Congress. He will continue his roles on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Senate Armed Services Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee. Additionally, he will join the Senate Judiciary Committee.
"As we head into the next Congress, I’m excited to announce that I’ll continue my work on the Senate Commerce, Armed Services, and Joint Economic Committees, and I’ll be joining the Senate Judiciary Committee," said Senator Schmitt. He expressed eagerness to contribute to the Judiciary Committee with his background as an attorney and former state attorney general. His focus includes working with the Trump Administration to restore trust in the Department of Justice and return to rule of law.
Schmitt emphasized that serving on these committees allows him to advocate for Missourians on issues such as military installations, rural broadband, and law enforcement in cities like St. Louis and Kansas City.
During his tenure on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Schmitt has been involved in crafting two National Defense Authorization Acts. His efforts have focused on eliminating divisive DEI policies from the military, enhancing cyber resiliency at DoD, and securing resources for Missouri's military agencies.
On the Senate Commerce Committee, Schmitt has aimed at reducing regulatory burdens related to commercial space launches while addressing rural broadband reforms and telecom issues like Rip and Replace.
The Senate Judiciary Committee oversees important functions including oversight of justice-related departments such as DOJ and DHS. It also plays a crucial role in judicial nominations under Article III.
