Today, Congressman Eric Burlison (R-MO-07) and 24 of his colleagues introduced a resolution to rescind the subpoenas issued by the January 6th Committee for Stephen K. Bannon, Mark Meadows, Daniel Scavino Jr., and Peter K. Navarro. The resolution also seeks to withdraw recommendations that these individuals be found in contempt of Congress and requires the Speaker of the House to notify the Department of Justice of these actions.

“It is past time for the House of Representatives to take action to begin undoing the harm that was caused by the illegitimate January 6th Committee," said Rep. Burlison. He described the committee as "nothing more than a political witch hunt" aimed at blaming President Trump and his advisors for the events on January 6, 2021, and influencing subsequent elections.

Rep. Thomas Massie added, “The Republican House should, by an official vote of the House, declare the subpoenas on Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro to be illegitimate and repealed." He emphasized that such action would serve as "an effective and needed repudiation of the sham January 6th committee.”

Rep. Bob Good criticized attempts to hold individuals like Steve Bannon and Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress, stating they were examples of government weaponization against political enemies. "These men have bravely fought for America-first values," he said.

Rep. Josh Brecheen called the committee "a total sham" intended to target President Trump and his closest advisors. He praised Rep. Burlison's effort as a step towards correcting past wrongs.

Rep. Warren Davidson echoed similar sentiments: “Congress must vacate the contempt of Congress charges issued against Peter Navarro, Steve Bannon, Dan Scavino, and my former colleague Mark Meadows.”

According to Rep. Michael Cloud, rescinding these subpoenas is essential for restoring integrity to Congress’s subpoena power: “The January 6th Committee was a politically charged body that weaponized its power."

Rep. Andy Ogles described the committee as an "unbalanced Gestapo for Leftists attempting to destroy their political opposition," arguing that its actions were invalid due to non-compliance with internal rules regarding member apportionment.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna condemned what she viewed as politically motivated actions by Democrats: “President Trump did not engage in insurrection... These are political vendettas."

Rep. Dan Bishop criticized both legal precedents set by the committee's actions and its focus on media exposure: “The illegitimate January 6th committee was focused on two things - escalating the political witch hunt against President Trump and getting on television."

Cosponsors for this legislation include Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05), Thomas Massie (R-KY-04), Chip Roy (R-TX-21), Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), Andrew Clyde (R-GA-09), Paul Gosar (R-AZ-09), Bob Good (R-VA-05), Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01), Lauren Boebert (R-CO-03), Josh Brecheen (R-OK-02), Clay Higgins (R-LA-03), Mary Miller (R-IL-15), Barry Moore (R-AL-02), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL-13), Eli Crane (R-AZ-02), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14), Scott Perry (R-PA-10), Jim Banks, Michael Cloud (R-TX27 ), Dan Bishop(R-NC08 ), Matt Rosendale(R-MT02 ), Matt Gaetz(R-FL01 ), Warren Davidson(R-OH08 ), Lance Gooden(R-TX05).
