The City of Springfield will host a public open house and environmental information meeting for the Renew Jordan Creek Project on April 11 at Missouri State University Brick City Gallery. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the project and its estimated timeline for construction. An informational staff presentation on the environmental impacts of the project will be provided during the event.
The Renew Jordan Creek project aims to uncover 1,100 feet of Jordan Creek and construct several bridges in downtown Springfield. The project area encompasses two large blocks in the urbanized center of Jordan Valley Park. Project manager Kirkland Preston emphasized the significance of the project site, stating, “This project site is located in an area with historical, cultural and environmental significance. It’s important to educate the community on what the project will entail and how we plan to lessen potential impacts to these elements at the site.”
The project's goals include flood reduction, water quality improvements, pedestrian and connectivity enhancements, sustainable greenspace integration, comfort and safety improvements, and sense of place development. Funding for the project will be sourced from various local funds, grants, and loans, including assistance from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund program.
To comply with state funding requirements and acquire necessary permits, the project team has produced an Environmental Information Document (EID). The draft EID can be accessed online, and questions or comments on the document will be accepted in person at the meeting or online until April 14.
Further public information meetings will be scheduled to provide details on construction timelines and traffic impacts as they become available. For more information, contact Communication Coordinator Kristen Milam at 573-819-3713 or [email protected].
