Missouri State University women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Louisiana Tech on Thursday night at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. The defeat puts the Bears at a season record of 5-7-3 overall and 2-2-2 in Conference USA play, while Louisiana Tech improved to 4-11-1 overall and 3-3-0 in the conference.
The only goal of the match was scored by Louisiana Tech's Peyton Wiseman in the 69th minute, assisted by Ashley Leonhart. Missouri State pressed for an equalizer late in the game, with several opportunities including a free kick by Maddie Schneiderhahn and a final-minute attempt from Lillie Rasmussen, but could not break through. Louisiana Tech goalkeeper Ansley Ittel made five saves to keep a clean sheet.
Missouri State had a strong start, outshooting Louisiana Tech 6-5 in the first half and controlling much of the early play. Both teams finished with nine shots each. Louisiana Tech had more corner kicks, with seven compared to Missouri State's three. Missouri State goalkeepers Ella Becker and Victoria Spahn combined for two saves.
Head coach Kirk Nelson commented on the match: "We came out strong in the first half and created multiple opportunities but couldn't convert. We need to stay locked in for the full 90 minutes moving forward. We will bounce back and be ready for Sunday."
Missouri State will finish its homestand on Sunday, October 19, facing Sam Houston at 1 p.m. The match will also serve as Green Game/Mental Health Awareness Day at Allison South Stadium. Admission will be free for all fans.
