Western Kentucky University defeated Missouri State in straight sets at the Hammons Student Center on Saturday, completing their Conference USA weekend series. The Hilltoppers won by set scores of 25-20, 25-13, and 25-14.
WKU improved to a 13-4 overall record and remained undefeated in conference play at 4-0. The team extended its Conference USA winning streak to 96 matches, hitting .489 for the match. Missouri State fell to 5-10 overall and is winless in conference play at 0-4.
Missouri State's offense posted a .213 hitting efficiency. Freshman Peyton McKee led the Bears with 12 kills. The opening set saw both teams tied on 15 occasions with four lead changes before WKU pulled away with a late run. Missouri State hit .333 in that set, aided by five kills from McKee.
In the second set, Missouri State briefly held a two-point lead before Western Kentucky took control. WKU committed only two hitting errors over the final two sets and recorded a combined .532 hitting percentage with 35 kills during those periods.
On defense for Missouri State, Brooke Eslinger tallied 12 digs while Grace Smith contributed two blocks. Kya Johnson served the team's only ace.
Missouri State will travel next week for matches against Jacksonville State scheduled for October 10 and October 11.
