Holmberg leads Missouri State men’s golf with near-record performance at season opener

Senior Tim Holmberg led the Missouri State men's golf team in its season opener at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, shooting a seven-under-par 64 during Monday's first round at Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. This score was one stroke away from the school record and marked the best single round by a Missouri State player since 2011. Holmberg, who is from Uppsala, Sweden, followed up with a 73 in the second round and is tied for seventh place overall with a total score of 137 heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Bears finished the day in 14th place after posting team scores of 283 and 291 for a combined total of 574. Eastern Kentucky leads the tournament after shooting a combined 25-under-par over two rounds, with Murray State currently in second place. Bellarmine, Youngstown State, and Dayton are also among the top five teams out of the 15 participating.

Other Missouri State players include junior Owen Swearingen, who is tied for 47th after rounds of 71 and 73 (144 total), sophomore Jonathan Jordan tied for 61st (72-73--145), freshman Pedro Gallegos in 77th (148), and freshman Noah Naugle in 93rd (154).
