Rep. Eric Burlison, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 7th district since 2023, has recently posted a series of statements on social media criticizing government subsidies for electric vehicles and other federal spending priorities.

On August 12, 2025, Burlison wrote, "I applaud @SecDuffy for cutting through the woke red tape in the NEVI program. Now Congress needs to pass my UNPLUG EVs Act to shut down these green scam boondoggles for good. Defend the taxpayer. Always."

Later that evening, he added, "It’s not the government’s role to subsidize a manufactured electric vehicle market. Congress must claw back wasted taxpayer dollars." On August 13, 2025, Burlison continued his critique of federal spending with another post: "When voters say they’re fed up with both parties, this is why. It’s not rocket science. Taxpayers don’t want their money shipped off to cultural showcases, climate crusades, or DEI diplomacy."

Burlison's remarks come amid ongoing national debates over federal funding for electric vehicle infrastructure and broader concerns about government expenditures on initiatives related to climate change and diversity programs.

Before serving in Congress, Burlison was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2009 to 2017 and served in the Missouri Senate from 2019 to 2023. He was born in Springfield, Missouri in 1976 and currently resides in Ozark. Burlison holds two degrees from Missouri State University (Fact sources: [1](#), [2](#), [3](#), [4](#)).
