Rep. Eric Burlison, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 7th district since 2023, announced via social media that President Donald Trump is reinstating the original Presidential Fitness Test and reviving the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
On August 5, 2025, Burlison posted: "Now, President Donald Trump is bringing back the original Presidential Fitness Test and reviving the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. The new council features iconic American athletes who will lead the charge to restore the Presidential Fitness Award and https://t.co/ctAP52Hirp".
In a subsequent post on the same day, he stated: "The Presidential Fitness Test will once again serve as the benchmark for student fitness. Top performers will earn the Presidential Fitness Award to inspire and motivate healthy habits in the classroom and beyond. https://t.co/SRj5gSwH30".
He also highlighted upcoming major sporting events in another tweet dated August 5, 2025: "Over the next three years, America will host the Ryder Cup, the President’s Cup, the FIFA World Cup, and the Olympic Games, the world’s premier sporting competitions. https://t.co/HpJiMckKOu".
Burlison has served in Congress since replacing Billy Long in 2023 after previous tenures in both chambers of Missouri's state legislature. He was born in Springfield in 1976 and resides in Ozark. He holds degrees from Missouri State University (Fact 1; Fact 2; Fact 3; Fact 4).
