U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri appeared on Fox Business' Varney & Co to discuss several topics, including President Joe Biden's mental competence, the Big Beautiful Bill, and peace talks involving former President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Senator Schmitt expressed doubts about President Biden's mental capabilities during his term in office. He stated, "...Look, no one, who watched the last four years, especially the last couple years, would believe that Joe Biden was in charge. The question is, who was in charge?" Schmitt mentioned an upcoming investigation he will lead with Senator Cornyn on June 18th to uncover details about decision-making during Biden's presidency.
Discussing Trump's legislative agenda, Schmitt referred to the Big Beautiful Bill. "President Trump is the leader of our party. He won in a landslide... We want to make that big, beautiful bill even more beautiful here in the Senate." Schmitt emphasized reforms aimed at preventing illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid and addressing waste within the system.
On international matters, Schmitt praised Trump's efforts in peace negotiations involving Ukraine and Russia. "All sides need to come to the table here and actually negotiate in good faith–including Putin," he said. Schmitt contrasted this approach with what he described as a lack of engagement under Biden's administration.
Schmitt reiterated support for working families through economic relief measures such as avoiding taxes on tips and overtime pay. He stressed that these initiatives align with Trump's broader agenda aimed at improving life for American workers.
