U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) appeared on Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria" to discuss several pressing issues, including President Trump's proposed legislation known as the Big Beautiful Bill. Schmitt expressed his belief that the bill requires more savings, stating, "We do need, I think, on the Big Beautiful Bill, to make it more beautiful with more savings."
Schmitt emphasized the importance of utilizing various legislative tools to achieve spending reductions and criticized the state and local tax (SALT) deduction policies. He remarked, "I think the SALT deduction stuff is crazy," while also noting differences between House and Senate dynamics regarding these deductions.
The senator also addressed a recent hearing concerning district court judges issuing nationwide injunctions. He highlighted concerns about judicial activism and questioned the assignment process of cases to specific judges. "There were more nationwide injunctions in the first 100 Days of President Trump’s second term here than there were the entirety of Obama’s eight years and Biden’s four years," Schmitt stated.
Looking ahead, Schmitt discussed an upcoming hearing focused on President Biden's mental acuity during his presidency. He indicated that whistleblower testimonies would play a crucial role in this investigation: "I think that we’re starting to hear from whistleblowers."
Finally, Schmitt touched upon security concerns related to individuals with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), suggesting visa revocations for students connected to CCP activities. He commented on bioterrorism threats linked to China: "China’s for real you and I talked about it and this kind of bioterrorism."
