U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) appeared on Fox News' "Ingraham Angle" to discuss the perceived threats posed by Communist China. During the interview, he emphasized the importance of understanding China's strategic intentions and their implications for global power dynamics.
"We have to understand the true nature of the threat that is Communist China," said Schmitt. He described the current situation as a "great powers competition" and stressed that "the 21st Century will be defined by who wins this." According to Schmitt, China views itself as an ascending power and believes America is in decline. He warned that China is willing to engage in various activities, including intellectual property theft and job displacement, to assert its dominance.
Schmitt also discussed his legislative efforts aimed at banning individuals affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from attending U.S. universities. "No one affiliated with the CCP—and I’ve got legislation with this—should have a Visa to be a student in any university in the United States of America," he stated. He argued that educating individuals connected to what he described as an adversarial regime poses a risk, given China's ambitions for world domination.
The senator criticized American universities for being complicit by accepting students linked to the CCP due to financial incentives. His proposed legislation would potentially free up approximately 300,000 spots for American students. "If you have a family member that's a member of the CCP or you have close connections, you don’t get to attend our any of our universities," Schmitt asserted, emphasizing this approach as common sense given China's global aspirations.
