Today, Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) led a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to address concerns regarding district court judges allegedly exceeding their Constitutional authority. The focus was on how these judges have been perceived as obstructing former President Trump's agenda and misusing the random judicial case selection process.

Senator Schmitt emphasized the gravity of the issue, stating, "District judges have abused the random judicial case selection process. There can be democratic accountability, no republican government, with an overly activist Judiciary, that allows over 600 judges to wield limitless power."

During his remarks, Schmitt highlighted specific instances involving Chief Justice Boasberg in Washington D.C., who he claims has repeatedly found himself presiding over major Trump-related cases. Schmitt described this occurrence as "a statistical impossibility" and accused Boasberg of taking over significant cases despite not being the designated emergency judge at the time.

Addressing concerns about the legitimacy of the Judicial Branch, Senator Schmitt drew an analogy: “I don’t think anybody has a problem on this side of the aisle with a ref calling balls and strikes or calling a foul. The problem is, what if the ref’s daughter hired the coach? What if the ref has money on the game?"

He continued by emphasizing potential consequences when judicial legitimacy is questioned: "What if people start to question the legitimacy of the ref in the game? We all know what happens? People don’t watch it anymore. Vegas takes the game off the board."

The hearing aimed to shed light on these issues and explore potential impacts on public trust in judiciary decisions.
