Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Eric Burlison and Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services Chairman Glenn Grothman have announced a joint hearing titled “Mandates, Meddling, and Mismanagement: The IRA’s Threat to Energy and Medicine.” This session will focus on the Biden Administration's use of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to increase taxes on businesses, boost environmental spending, and affect Medicare premiums.

The lawmakers expressed concerns about the IRA's role in advancing what they describe as a "radical climate agenda" while limiting Medicare plan options. They stated that "the IRA has wasted billions of taxpayer funds" and warned that energy subsidies and Medicare premium increases could potentially cost taxpayers trillions over the next decade unless Congress intervenes.

The hearing is scheduled for May 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET in HVC-210 at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. It will feature testimony from Mr. Ben Lieberman of the Competitive Enterprise Institute; Dr. Erin Trish from USC Schaeffer Center; and Dr. William McBride from the Tax Foundation.

The event will be available for viewing via livestream.
