Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Chairman Eric Burlison has announced an upcoming hearing to discuss America's leadership in artificial intelligence. The hearing, titled "America’s AI Moonshot: The Economics of AI, Data Centers, and Power Consumption," will focus on the global landscape of AI technology, the infrastructure required to support it, and the importance of maintaining the United States' position as a leader in this field for national security and economic prosperity.
This initiative follows President Donald Trump's recent Executive Order promoting AI innovation in the country by reducing barriers to ensure American dominance internationally. Chairman Burlison emphasized the importance of not taking America's lead in AI for granted. He stated, "The United States is the indisputable global leader in AI, but under no circumstances can we take this lead for granted. President Trump and his administration recognize that AI is the new frontier and maintaining our current edge in this technology—with the support of data centers and the energy sector—is key to our nation’s future prosperity and national security."
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET at 2247 Rayburn House Office Building. It will feature testimonies from Neil Chilson of Abundance Institute, Josh Levi from Data Center Coalition, and Mark P. Mills of National Center for Energy Analytics. The event will be open to both public and press attendees and will also be available via livestream.
Chairman Burlison expressed his commitment to working with Congress to support responsible AI development while fostering innovation through pro-market solutions. He remarked, "The adoption of AI is only going to accelerate, and Congress can’t afford to get caught flat-footed. This subcommittee is committed to analyzing how Congress can assist the Trump Administration’s ongoing efforts to unleash AI responsibly while also examining pro-market solutions that foster new innovation."
