Representative Eric Burlison and Senator Mike Lee have reintroduced the Achieving Choice in Education Act. This legislative proposal aims to broaden educational opportunities by expanding 529 education savings accounts and promoting school choice policies.

"Parents deserve the freedom to choose the best educational path for their children, and the Achieving Choice in Education Act empowers them by expanding 529 education savings accounts and encouraging states to embrace school choice policies," stated Rep. Burlison. He highlighted how school choice has positively impacted children in Southwest Missouri.

Senator Lee emphasized parental rights, saying, "It is the fundamental right of parents to choose the educational path that is most suitable for their children." He noted that the ACE Act aligns with this principle by adjusting tax systems to support alternatives to public schooling.

The ACE Act includes several key provisions:

- Expansion of 529 Education Savings Plans: It broadens qualified expenses and increases annual contribution limits.

- Gift Tax Exclusions: Contributions to 529 plans and related withdrawals from retirement accounts are exempt from gift taxes up to $20,000 annually.

- Tax Incentives for School Choice: Federal tax exclusions on state municipal bonds will be adjusted based on each state's level of school choice.

The bill could potentially be included in budget reconciliation legislation, providing a feasible route toward national school choice objectives.

Four representatives cosponsor the bill: Tracey Mann, Andy Harris, Randy Weber, and John Carter. Several organizations support it, including Heritage Action for America and Parents Defending Education Action.

Ryan Walker from Heritage Action commented on removing financial barriers to education access. Nikki Neily from Parents Defending Education Action expressed gratitude for efforts to provide diverse educational options that meet families' needs.
