The City of Springfield is engaging in initial talks with the United Soccer League (USL) about potentially introducing both men's and women's professional soccer to the city. On December 3, the City Council will consider a letter of intent (LOI) that proposes sharing the costs of a feasibility study with USL.

Amanda Ohlensehlen, Director of Economic Vitality and Workforce Development, stated that this initiative could lead to discussions and collaboration on a real estate development project. This project might result in a multi-purpose sports and entertainment district in Springfield. The city has identified city-owned property at 1109 E. Trafficway as a possible location for a soccer stadium.

The City Council plans to conduct an initial reading during its Council Lunch Workshop at 11:30 a.m. on December 3, with a public hearing and vote anticipated on December 16. Further details are available on the agenda posted online.
