The City of Springfield is actively seeking candidates to fill three vacancies on the Board of Public Utilities. The board, which includes 11 members appointed by the Springfield City Council, has specific requirements for applicants. Two positions are designated for city residents, while the third is open to a customer of City Utilities who resides outside the city.

Applicants for the city resident positions must have lived in Springfield for at least two years and possess business or professional experience. These appointments are for three-year terms. Similarly, candidates applying for the position open to non-residents must have been customers of City Utilities for at least two years and also demonstrate business or professional expertise.

City Utilities of Springfield, established in 1945, provides electricity, natural gas, water, broadband, and public transportation services across 320 square miles in southwest Missouri. The utility boasts over 111,000 customers who benefit from some of the lowest electricity prices in the United States and enjoy comprehensive service with a single billing system.

The Board of Public Utilities plays a crucial role in setting policies and long-term strategies as outlined in the City Charter. The board convenes monthly on the last Thursday at 3 p.m., with meetings held at the City Utilities Board room located at 301 E. Central St.

Interested individuals can apply by visiting springfieldmo.gov or by downloading an application form to be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office at the Busch Municipal Building on 840 Boonville Ave. Applications will be accepted until October 28th.
