Today, Senator Eric Schmitt honored six Missourians as Champions of Missouri for their heroic actions, selfless acts, and embodiment of Missouri values.
"Champions of Missouri embrace true Missouri values and represent the best in our society. Whether through acts of kindness, displays of perseverance and prowess, or heroic actions, these champions of Missouri have helped to save lives and make the world a better place. I, along with the rest of the state of Missouri, thank them for their service, sacrifice, and selflessness," said Senator Eric Schmitt.
The Champions of Missouri include:
Tom Henke for his work as a World Series champion in supporting the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City. Inspired by his daughter, Henke has successfully raised over $1 million in charity for those with disabilities.
Trey and Casey Filter and Paul Contreras were recognized for their heroism in stopping an armed suspect at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade.
Brett Forbes was honored for his perseverance and athletic prowess. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Forbes achieved his dreams by competing for Team USA at the World Para Powerlifting Open in St. Louis and breaking the American rookie record.
Joseph Sapp was acknowledged for courageously assisting a police officer in subduing and arresting a violent suspect on the verge of escaping police custody at a Branson apartment complex parking lot. Sapp has since joined the U.S. Army.
Senator Schmitt launched the Champions of Missouri program in January 2024 to honor ordinary Missourians who achieve extraordinary things, ensuring they receive deserved recognition.
