A pair of City Council measures that were initially scheduled for a first reading on March 11 have been delayed until March 25. The postponement was announced as part of ongoing developments related to zoning and redevelopment projects in the city.

One of the measures, identified by case number Z-1-2024, involves a request to rezone approximately 3.3 acres of property located at specific addresses on South Kansas Avenue and West Meadowmere St. The proposed change is from Residential Single-family to Low-density Multifamily Residential district with a Conditional Overlay District.

Additionally, a significant redevelopment plan for the Commercial-Pacific Street Redevelopment Area is in the works. This plan aims to revitalize around 7.46 acres of land, outlining phases for mixed-use and multi-family residential purposes. The area is segmented into four distinct Redevelopment Project Areas, with a timeline set for activation over the next 18 months.

The initial phase of this redevelopment plan includes the establishment of a 72-unit townhouse-style multi-family residential development. This phase aligns with Planned Development District No. 386, which received approval from the City Council in July 2023 through Special Ordinance 6800. Future projects within the Redevelopment Plan will be subject to consideration through forthcoming amendments.

The City Council's decision to postpone these measures underscores the complexity and thorough planning involved in shaping the city's urban landscape. The rescheduled meeting on March 25 will provide further insights into these crucial zoning and redevelopment initiatives.
