The City of Springfield is seeking public input on its Draft FY 2024-2025 Annual Action Plan funding recommendations until 5 p.m. on April 3. Community members are encouraged to review the proposed allocations and provide feedback, which can be submitted via email or obtained in person at local libraries.

The funding recommendations include approximately $1.6 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding and $1.2 million in Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funding for the upcoming fiscal year. These amounts are subject to change pending the City's final allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).

According to the City, the proposed activities for CDBG and HOME funding have been carefully selected to align with City Council priorities and address community needs, with a focus on benefiting low- and moderate-income individuals. Projects encompass a variety of areas, including affordable housing, economic vitality, public services, and administration and planning.

One of the key initiatives is the support for affordable housing, with programs targeting low- and moderate-income families in specific areas of the city. Additionally, public service funding is earmarked for several nonprofit organizations serving Springfield, such as the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch Transitional Living Program and the Harmony House Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter.

The City Council is set to hold a first reading and public hearing on the Annual Action Plan on April 8, followed by a final vote on April 22. Citizens interested in speaking at the public hearing are required to sign up with the City Clerk beforehand.

In line with accessibility guidelines, accommodations can be arranged for individuals with disabilities or limited English proficiency who wish to participate in the process. The City encourages all stakeholders to engage in the review and comment period to help shape the allocation of HUD program funds for the benefit of the Springfield community.
