Representative Eric Burlison introduced the Freights First Act which would improve our nation’s supply chain by eliminating Amtrak’s right of track preference within 50 miles of a port or rail yard.

Rep. Eric Burlison said, “Railway bottlenecks and time delays at critical junctures create empty shelves in stores and higher prices for consumers. The Freights First Act removes Amtrak’s burdensome right of track mandate within 50 miles of a port or rail yard and ensures America’s businesses and working families receive their goods in a timely fashion. We should find ways to cut red tape to benefit our supply chain instead of providing special treatment to poor stewards of the people’s money like Amtrak. This bill does just that.”

Rep. Troy Nehls said, “Poorly run companies like Amtrak should not receive special treatment. Taxpayer dollars heavily fund Amtrak and their operations should not interfere with the movement of freight across our country that Americans need every day. Our nation’s supply chain should not be delayed, appealing to the needs of one company. I am glad to join Congressman Burlison on this important legislation to remove gridlock and improve our nation’s supply chain.”

Rep. Andy Ogles said, “The United States has seen first-hand the impacts of supply chain delays over the past few years. The Freights First Act would help alleviate the chokepoints on our railways and create much needed efficiency. I applaud the efforts of Congressman Burlison on this important issue and am proud to be a cosponsor.”

The Freights First Act is cosponsored by Rep. Troy Nehls (TX-22), Rep. Scott Perry (PA-10), Rep. Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), and Rep. Andy Ogles (TN-05).
