The City of Springfield is gearing up for its first Clean Green “Dropoff Depot” disposal event scheduled for this Saturday, April 20, at 404 N. Jefferson Avenue. Residents are encouraged to participate in this initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and cleanliness in the city.

Residents are reminded that only specific items will be accepted at the event. According to the announcement, "Tires, mattresses and general trash and bulky items will be accepted at no cost to residents while space is available." However, there are restrictions in place, with no commercial waste, construction, or demolition waste permitted. Additionally, there will be no home pickup option available, and trailers will not be allowed.

To ensure a smooth process, the City advises that "When storage containers are full, collection of a certain item may be cut off early," and encourages residents to stay updated by following the City’s social media channels for event notifications.

Following this event, a second Drop-off Depot opportunity is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, providing another chance for residents to dispose of unwanted items responsibly.

The City has specified the items that will be accepted, including general household trash, mattresses, and tires. Residents are urged to adhere to the limits set for mattresses and tires to facilitate the disposal process efficiently.

In line with the environmentally conscious theme of the initiative, the City highlights the importance of recycling tires to prevent environmental hazards. "Recycling tires can help harmful chemicals stay out of the earth, water, and air," the announcement states.

Moreover, the City is actively seeking community involvement in the Clean Green Springfield initiative, with over 800 volunteers already registered for various cleanup and beautification opportunities. Individuals, families, businesses, and service organizations are encouraged to participate in activities such as roadside trash pickups and neighborhood cleanup events.
