The City of Springfield has announced a public information session for the ongoing Galloway Street Widening Project. The event is scheduled to take place from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, at All Saints Anglican Church, located at 2751 E. Galloway Street. During the session, city staff will provide updates on construction progress and discuss upcoming lane closures and other traffic impacts.
The project aims to widen Galloway Street to three lanes between Luster and Lone Pine avenues, enhancing safety for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Key improvements include a new center turn lane, roundabout intersections at Luster Avenue and Lone Pine Avenue, upgraded stormwater infrastructure, and improved drainage along Luster Avenue. Additionally, the project will feature a multi-use path on the north side of Galloway Street and a new sidewalk on the south side, improving connectivity to Sequiota Park, the Galloway Greenway Trail, and local businesses.
Attendees of the information session are welcome to come as their schedules permit. A brief presentation by city staff is planned for 5:15 p.m., after which attendees can engage with staff members and ask questions.
“This will be the third public meeting we’ve hosted for this project as we’ve continued our efforts to keep residents, business and property owners in the area informed,” said Public Works Project Manager Nicholas Edelman. “Now that we have a contractor on board and we’re moving quickly through the first stages of the project, we need to update residents on the construction schedule and what type of closures they can expect to see as construction progresses.”
The Galloway Street Widening Project was ranked as the second priority in city-wide transportation surveys conducted in 2015 and 2018. Design and partial right-of-way phases were completed during the 2016 quarter-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax renewal cycle. Funding for construction was approved by voters in the 2019 renewal cycle of this sales tax.
With an estimated cost of $6.5 million, funding will come from both Springfield’s quarter-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax and $1.5 million from the Governor’s Transportation Cost Share Program.
