Today, representatives from Motorola were here to meet with representatives from the County about the Next Generation 9-1-1 technology upgrade.
The upgrade itself, once underway, is a 12-18 month project that, upon completion, will result in significant enhancements to 9-1-1 service. It will create a faster, more resilient system that allows voice, photos, videos and text messages to flow seamlessly from the public to the 9-1-1 network. It will also improve PSAP ability to help manage call overload, natural disasters, and transferring of 9-1-1 calls and proper jurisdictional responses based on enhanced location tracking.
9-1-1 has also just completed an Intrado phone upgrade in preparation for this project. That upgrade also connects us with Jasper County in the event of a catastrophic system failure, each agency will now be able to seamlessly serve as backup to the other.
