The City of Springfield is seeking volunteers for a citywide storm debris cleanup event scheduled for Thursday, July 17. The initiative, organized by Clean Green Springfield, aims to assist residents who need help moving organic storm debris to the curb before the City’s scheduled pickup sweeps.

The event is open to all community members, including individuals, families, businesses, faith groups, and civic organizations. Volunteers can choose between two shifts: morning (7:30–11:30 a.m.) or afternoon (1:00–5:00 p.m.). Participants will gather at one of 15 rally locations throughout Springfield and will be matched with a City crew lead who will provide a list of households requiring assistance.

“Volunteers receive a free Clean Green T-shirt and a pizza lunch at noon,” according to the announcement. Safety guidelines will be provided upon registration. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves and tools but are advised not to use power tools.

Residents are encouraged to begin placing limbs and branches at the curb starting July 7. Debris should not block sidewalks, mailboxes, storm drains, or intersections. Those needing help moving debris can request assistance online by July 14 through CleanGreenSGF.com or by calling the Citizen Resource Center at 864-1010 if they lack internet access.

Following the volunteer event on July 17, Public Works crews will start curbside sweeps in different Council Zones over several weeks:

– Zone 1: July 21–25
– Zone 3: July 28–August 1
– Zone 2: August 11–15
– Zone 4: August 18–22

Residents are reminded to have their debris ready at the curb by the start date for their zone’s sweep. Hodges Tree Service has been contracted by the City to assist with large debris piles and complete outstanding assistance requests.

Registration for volunteering is available through Give Pulse on CleanGreenSGF.com.
