The City of Springfield has postponed its upcoming visioning workshop about the future of the Springfield Expo Center due to an approaching winter storm. The event, originally scheduled for Monday, will now take place on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Discovery Center of Springfield.
The session is organized by the City in partnership with architecture firm Populous. It aims to gather public input on plans to renovate and expand the underperforming city-owned Expo Center at 635 E. St. Louis St., transforming it into a regional convention and events center.
Citizens attending the workshop will also receive information on how they can continue participating in discussions regarding the project.
On April 7, voters in Springfield will decide whether to approve a proposed 3% tourism tax increase intended to fund the renovation and expansion of the Expo Center. The City is also exploring interest from private developers for a hotel that would complement the revamped facility.
Further details about the proposal and answers to common questions are available on the City’s website at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/election.
