Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri has introduced the Improving National Safety, Public Health, Ethics, and Clinical Trials (INSPECT) Act. This legislation proposes the establishment of new Inspectors General positions for three significant public health agencies: the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Senator Schmitt stated, “Americans’ trust in our public health institutions is at an all-time low since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. From draconian mandates to free speech censorship by ‘scientific experts’, our public health institutions have done more harm than good for hardworking Americans. Gone are the times of woke DEI focused research, it’s time the government works for the people, and my bill will ensure these agencies are doing just that.”
The INSPECT Act aims to create oversight positions to address concerns about transparency and accountability within these federal health agencies.
