Missouri State University Lady Bears softball team lost to Sam Houston by a score of 9-1 in six innings on Sunday afternoon, April 12. The defeat came during the series finale in Huntsville, Texas.
The loss is significant as it leaves Missouri State with an overall record of 18-22 and a conference record of 6-12. The team was unable to capitalize on early opportunities, stranding two runners in the first inning and leaving the bases loaded in the third after scoring their only run.
Sam Houston took an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning and adding two more in the second. Missouri State responded with three consecutive singles to load the bases in the third, but managed just one run on an RBI single from Lauren Rowland before ending the threat with a ground out.
The game remained close until Sam Houston’s offense surged with a six-run sixth inning. All six runs were scored with two outs as Missouri State allowed five free passes and three wild pitches during that frame. Brynn Romine led Missouri State offensively with two hits while Rowland drove in their only run. Despite striking out just three times, Missouri State could not mount another rally as Sam Houston retired ten straight batters to finish the game.
