Jonathan Jordan led the Missouri State men’s golf team on Monday during the first day of the Colin Montgomerie/HCU Invitational in Sugar Land, Texas. Jordan, a sophomore from Rolla, Missouri, posted a two-under-par 69 in his afternoon round at Sweetwater Country Club after opening with a 75. His total score of 144 places him tied for 26th overall.
The Missouri State team is currently ranked 13th out of 15 teams after shooting rounds of 307 and 296 for a combined score of 603 through the first two rounds. Howard University holds a strong lead at the top with scores of 273 and 274, totaling 547 and putting them at 21-under-par. Houston Christian University is in second place with a score of 560. Other teams rounding out the top six include Midland Community College (574), Weber State (575), Southeastern Louisiana, and East Texas A&M (both at 576).
For Missouri State, senior Christian Rischer and junior Owen Swearingen are tied for 58th place overall, each recording totals of 152; Rischer shot rounds of 73 and 79 while Swearingen had scores of 79 and then improved to a 73 in his second round. Freshman Pedro Gallegos sits in 77th place after carding an 80 followed by a 78 for a total of 158. Fellow freshman Noah Naugle finished with scores of 86 and then improved to a round of 76, placing him in the number-80 spot with a total score of 162.
The final round will begin Tuesday morning at Sweetwater Country Club with an announced shotgun start time set for 8:30 a.m.
