Missouri State leads men’s standings at MVC swim championships; women sit third

The Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded the third day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, held at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana. The men’s team leads with 1,086 points, ahead of Miami University with 1,067.5 points and Southern Illinois with 890.5 points. The women’s team is currently in third place with 796.5 points, trailing Southern Illinois (875) and Indiana State (854). One day of competition remains.

On the third day, freshman Kiefer Roemer set a new MVC record by winning gold in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.56 seconds. This performance also qualified him for the 2026 DI NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships and is the second fastest time in school history.

Junior Anderson Brown won silver in the 200-yard butterfly (1:44.26), having set both a Missouri State and MVC record during preliminaries earlier that day with a time of 1:43.80.

Sophomore Carter Crook placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (47.73). In relay events, sophomore Ilias El Fallaki, senior Jack Grandy, sophomore Mate Miszlai, and freshman Zach Mendez secured silver in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:26.26).

For the women’s team on day three, seniors Lana Janson, Ainsley Jenkins, Sophia Coleta, and junior Makenzie Kurre earned gold in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:14.68.

During day two of competition, Missouri State men advanced to first place overall after earning medals across several events. Sophomore Mate Miszlai took silver in the 400-yard individual medley (3:50.20), followed by junior Anderson Brown who claimed bronze (3:51.45). Freshman Zach Mendez finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:34.99). Senior Gonzalo Ruiz, freshman Kiefer Roemer, sophomore Jack Ailshire, and senior Lucas Chadwell won gold in the men’s 200-yard medley relay (1:25.61).

On the women’s side during day two, sophomore Lillie Freulon captured gold in the 100-yard butterfly (53.25), while junior Makenzie Kurre won gold in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.14). Sophomore Delaney Nickles earned bronze on one-meter dive scoring 244.40.

The opening day saw strong performances from both teams as well. For men’s events on day one, freshman Zach Mendez set an MVC record by winning gold in the 500-yard freestyle (4:19.72), while sophomore Ilias El Fallaki came second (4:20.78). Sophomore Gonzalo Ruiz, senior Luigi da Silva, sophomore Jack Ailshire and senior Lucas Chadwell secured bronze in the men’s 400-yard medley relay.

Missouri State’s women began their campaign placing second overall after strong showings on day one; senior Lana Janson took bronze in the women’s 200-yard individual medley (2:01.82). The team of Olivia Sala, Janson, Lillie Freulon and Makenzie Kurre finished second place with a time of 3:40.36.
