Missouri State women’s track and field athlete Mary Margaret Harris was named the recipient of the Conference USA Winter Spirit of Service Award, according to an April 9 announcement. The award recognizes student-athletes for their commitment to community service, academic achievement, and participation in their sport.
The Spirit of Service Award is given to student-athletes who show significant involvement in community engagement while maintaining strong academic records and actively competing. Harris was selected as Missouri State’s winter-season honoree as part of the conference’s annual recognition program.
Harris, a graduate student from Fayetteville, Arkansas, has participated in various community service activities. Her efforts include reading to children and helping teachers at Roundtree Elementary, Sunshine Elementary, and Marshfield High School. She has also taken part in street cleanups, Convoy of Hope events, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Food Drive.
Academically, Harris holds a 3.13 undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and a 3.97 graduate GPA while pursuing a certificate in speech pathology after earning her undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in child and family development. She was recognized as a 2025 Maroon & White Scholar-Athlete and has been named to the Missouri State Athletic Director’s Honor Roll five times.
In competition for Missouri State Bears track and field team, Harris has posted personal-best performances across several distance events both indoors and outdoors. Her achievements include second place in the distance medley relay during the 2024-25 season, fourth place in the steeplechase during that same campaign, as well as first-place finishes in the 1500 meters during the previous season.
