On July 7, 2025, Burlison highlighted the efforts of “fiscal hawks” in securing a more conservative version of a bill after “additional guarantees [were] stripped from the bill by the Senate”. He mentioned that late-night negotiations played a crucial role in achieving this outcome.
Later that day, he expressed criticism towards Democrats regarding Medicaid policy changes. Burlison claimed that “Democrats will lie about any change to Medicaid,” emphasizing his belief that able-bodied adults should be required to work.
