To commemorate National Nutrition Month, the Northwest Student Dietetic Association (NSDA) is again providing free fruit on select Fridays during March.

Students may pick up fresh fruit in campus buildings between noon and 4 p.m. March 3 at the Robert and Virginia Foster Fitness Center, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 17 at Garrett-Strong Science Building, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 24 at Colden Hall and 8 to 10 a.m. March 31 on the second floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union.

Members of the NSDA will provide a mix of apples, oranges and bananas on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students also can receive information about National Nutrition Month, including ways to incorporate cultural foods, meal planning and snack ideas. The campaign’s theme for 2023 is “Fuel for the Future.”

The initiative is sponsored by NSDA and Kappa Omicron Nu, the national honor society for human science students.

“Celebrating national nutrition month is a great way of promoting health and wellness around campus,” Shreeyesha Pradhan, vice president of the NSDA chapter and a senior dietetics major from Kathmandu, Nepal, said. “This is usually the time when we have most of our midterm exams and projects due. In the midst of all these, health and wellness should always be a priority.”

NSDA helps students develop professional contacts and promote involvement in the profession of dietetics through conferences, workshops and other activities. Membership is open to any student with an interest in the profession of dietetics and foods and nutrition.

National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign coordinated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that invites people to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits.
